September 27th-29th Weekend

Fall is definitely in the air!  What a great time of year to get out and enjoy all that Blythewood has to offer.
This Weekend in Blythewood
September 27th, 28th and 29th

Last Call

The Northeast Farmers Market at Doko Meadows will call it a 'wrap' come Monday.  It's been a tough summer for farmers but we've had great loyalty from many of our vendors in spite of the rainy weather.  Stop by one last time and pick up some fresh herbs, handmade spices, jams and jellies and some ready to heat and eat culinary treats.  The NEFM will be open 3:00pm - 7:00pm on Monday so come on by and shop one last time.
We appreciate all those that have supported the NEFM this summer and hope we'll be able to  offer even more vendors and variety next summer.  A special 'THANK YOU' is offered up to Sarah Bailey who has managed the market this year, both at Doko Meadows and Lake Carolina.    She did a wonderful job and we appreciate all her hard work!

Don't miss out on shopping with these vendors at this week's market.  Hope to see you there!

Hooray for the Home Team!

It's 'home arena' advantage again this week for the Gamecock Equestrian Team when they go up against Fresno State  at 2:00 TODAY at One Wood Farm.  Our USC girls crushed Kansas State last week with a resounding score of 15-5.
USC's team is lead by a pair of juniors, Katherine Schmidt and Amber Hunter and features a talented group comprised mainly of sophomores and juniors.  The future is looking quite bright for our defending SEC Champs!
You might want to  sneak out a bit early  from work today and head on over to One Wood Farm to watch our girls in action.

Go Gamecocks!!!

The Doko Meadows Commemorative Tree Project

The Blythewood Garden Club was founded In the month of May 1953 when a group of twenty-five ladies living in the Blythewood area decided to organize a community garden club. The inaugural meeting took place in the Blythewood School where the official charter and club name were established. The founding members of the newly established Blythewood Garden Club elected Mrs. T. H. Wilds as the first club president, Mrs. Aaron Branham the vice-president and Miss Ann Rorer as secretary-treasurer.

On April 20, 1955, the new Blythewood Garden Club presented its first flower show at the Blythewood School Gymnasium. Hundreds of Blythewood residents attended the show which eventually became an annual event for the club. Over the past sixty years the club has also sponsored many community beautification and improvement projects. Some of these projects include the establishment and maintenance of roadside parks, planting shrubbery at area schools and the Blythewood community center and other special road-side beautification projects.

The Blythewood Garden Club continues its commitment to encourage and promote community beautification, good gardening habits and a community-wide appreciation for the environment and our shared responsibility to protect it for future generations to enjoy. Some of the current Blythewood Garden Club projects include: The Plant it Pink program which establishes plantings of pink flowers and flowering shrubs to increase an awareness of Breast Cancer, a special initiative to beautify public buildings through the planting of flowers around the Richland County Library and U.S. Post Office, the establishment of the Carolina Fence Garden at the historic Langford Nord House and the annual donation and decoration of the Christmas Tree for Langford Nord House.

The Town of Blythewood is delighted to partner with the Blythewood Garden Club to provide the opportunity for individuals, families and organizations to adopt a tree at the beautiful Doko Meadows Park to commemorate a special person, or occasion.

Who Knew?

The USC horses don't travel to other schools when the team is competing away from home.  Each girl has to ride a horse from the hosting team during the competition.  Likewise, for those teams competing on USC home turf.

Did you Miss It?

If you missed the The Gamecock Equestrian Team's opening meet against Kansas State today, no worries.  Our USC girls will be riding again next Friday against Fresno State over at One Wood Farm, located at 1201 Syrup Mill Road right here in Blythewood.  Long time USC head coach, Boo Major is excited that her team gets to kickoff the season with two home meets.   The defending Southeastern Conference CHAMPIONS were ranked No. 3 in preseason polls and they bring back most of their lineup from last year's team.  The Gamecocks will host two more home meets this fall and two in the spring.  And great news for Blythewood...the team will host this year's SEC Equestrian Championships in March right here in our wonderful little town!
