Mayor Mike Ross and Town Council are accepting volunteer
applications from citizens interested in serving the Town of Blythewood by
serving on these boards. Applicants must reside within town limits.
The BAR normally meets monthly to review applications for
Certificates of Appropriateness and written appeals regarding decisions
rendered by a planning official; reviews conditions of construction,
reconstruction, and alterations of exterior appearances, including repair and
change of exterior color where improvement value exceeds $25,000; enforces
Board of Architectural review standards and considers variances for extraordinary
conditions; promotes the purposes of the Historic Preservation Ordinance; and
provides formal recommendations to the Town Council and/or Planning Commission
on ordinance adoption or amendment, and historic property designation.
The BZA meets as needed to offer a forum for appealing
decisions of the Blythewood zoning administrator. The board may affirm or
reverse, wholly or in part, or may modify, the decision by a written order
separately stating findings of fact and conclusion of law. The BZA may also
consider property owner requests seeking variances of the zoning ordinance or
special exceptions for a use permitted by district regulations.
The PC periodically prepares or revises a comprehensive plan
and program for the development of its jurisdiction. The Board prepares and recommends for
adoption to the appropriate governing authority or authorities as a means for
implementing plans and programs, establishes principles and policies for guiding action in development of the
area, prepares and recommends to Town Council for adoption of ordinances
promoting development in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan. The PC determines if specific proposed
developments conform to the principles and requirements of the comprehensive
plan for growth and improvement of the area, reviews and recommends to Town
Council any needed changes in the Zoning Chapter and map of the Town of
Blythewood. They also keep Town Council
and the general public informed and advised as to all matters brought before
the Planning Commission.
