The Richland County Vector Control Program
will soon begin spraying
for mosquitoes.
Residents are urged to do their part to keep the flying, buzzing insects under control.

Here are a few preventive measures
to use as you inspect your yard:
  • Empty, overturn or remove water-holding containers.
  • Use EPA registered insect repellents that contain DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus according to the instruction.
  • Clear drainage ditches of debris and weeds.
  • Pack tree holds with sand or cement.
  • Clean clogged roof gutters
  • Stock ornamental ponds with top-feeding minnows.
  • Maintain swimming pools properly.
  • Change the water in pet dishes, birdbaths and containers used to root plants at least weekly.
  • Put a screen on rain barrels to prevent mosquitoes from accessing the collected water.
Truck spraying in our area will usually be conducted between midnight and dawn. Beekeepers and people allergic to the products resmethrin or permethrin are urged to notify Vector Control by calling the County's Ombudsman Office at 803-929-6000.
