Customers can earn rewards by meeting their Learning Challenge goals.  Call 691-9806 for more information Blythewood High School Summer Baseball Camp Barry Mizzell, BHS head baseball coach will host two sessions of baseball camp this summer. Session 1: June 6-10th Session 2:  June 13-16th Each session will be help from 8:30 am -12:00 pm Monday -Thursday. There will be two camps in one this year, with a basic fundamental camp for ages 6-14 and an advanced pitching and hitting camp for ages 9-14.  The cost of the camp is $65 per person or $120 for 2 family members if received before June 1st.  Contact Barry Mizzell at 333-9882 or 69104090 x28919 or email at bmizzell@richland2.org for more information.                                                                                                           The oldest house in Blythewood is the Hoffman House, built in 1855 by George Peter Hoffman, for his bride, Jane Ruff. The Hoffmans lived in the house for 48 years until Mr. Hoffman's death in 1902 and Mrs. Hoffman's death eight months later. They had 12 children who grew up in the house and 2 of these children later had their own families, who remained in Blythewood or the Cedar Creek area.  The original house had three front rooms which still have the hand-beveled tongue and groove heart-pine timber floors, walls and ceilings. Two wings were added later, which can still be seen with its wide, somewhat curved hallway running through the house. Several other families lived in the house after the Hoffmans.  It was put on the National Register after being restored by the Brantleys in 1978. The house has been an antique shop, a venue for parties and receptions, a flower shop and then in 2000 was again refurbished and became Town Hall.  We are now making small repairs to the house and having it painted. After the renovations, you are welcome to come in to see the historic Hoffman House, with beautiful Doko Manor next door.

Curtis Wilson at 803-576-1429 or email at cuwilson@rcsd.net This is Dr. Portia McKnight Lubchenco, born in 1887 in the Smallwood Community, now Portia Road.  Portia  was the first female medical student to graduate from North Carolina Medical College in Charlotte in 1912. After marrying Mr. Alexis Lubchenco and a harrowing trip from Russia  back to Blythewood in 1917, she started  a very busy medical practice  and was said to have easily  delivered 100 babies a year at their homes.  Due to the destructive  boll weevil in the 1930's the family moved to Colorado where Dr. Lubchenco had a very successful medical practice and was given many awards.   In 1953 Portia McKnight Lubchenco  became the      Mother of the Year                      in   Colorado.
