Blythwood Butterfly Festival: A Special Arts-Based Festival Celebrating the Monarch Butterfly

Saturday, September 5,
9:00 to 6:00 at Doko Meadows Park

The festival will celebrate the endangered Monarch butterfly through both visual and performing arts and will include educational information, informative sessions and exhibits in a community-wide effort to help sustain the migrating populations of the Monarch butterfly.

Those interested in selling arts and crafts and those artists interested in submitting artwork for the Blythewood Butterfly Festival art competition should contact festival director, Jean Bell, at or call 803-550-9323 or 803-394-2179

Did You Know: Kidzone has  a great website for kids ages preschool to 5th grade. Kids can learn about the Monarch butterfly, work on puzzles, plus many other activities.

Fact...  "Most predators have learned that the monarch butterfly makes a poisonous snack.  The toxins from the monarch's milkweed diet have given the butterfly this defense.  In either the caterpillar or butterfly stage the monarch needs no camouflage because it takes in toxins from the milkweed and is poisonous to predators.  Many animals advertise their poisonous nature with bright colors...  Just like the monarch!"  Thanks for the fact, Kidszone!

Welcome back to school!  Town Hall wishes the students, teachers, administrators, the support staff and the parents
