Now you Know...H. B. McLean's article can be read on the Blythwood Historical Society's website.  He refers to the rostrum more as a stage in his recollections of the Blythewood School.  Susan W. had the first correct answer!  Thanks to the many people who answered the question.
Did you Know...In 1938 students of the Blythewood High School published their own newsletter called Blythe-Words.  They speak of a $17,000 WPA construction project being completed by December 1938.  The structure was made of brick, hardwood floors, 108 feet long and 70 feet wide. The students reported that "the splendid structure was planned by the state architects and is unique in that it has a V shaped roof."  This building is still standing seventy five years later.  Name the building.

Email your answer to mkelly@townofblythewoodsc.gov for a treat from Town Hall.

To all the Blythewood Community for making it through another S.C. summer! ( With more hot weather to come before the fall.)

Now you Know...Emily Bookhart became the principal of the Blythewood School. Her house is on the walking tour of Blythewwod at 193 Langford Road.  Jessie W. again knew the answer and received a treat from Town Hall.

Did you Know...In 1992 H.B. McLean wrote a very detailed article about the Blythewood School .  He attended first grade there in 1909 and recalls the 2 large rooms seperated by folding doors.  The children provided the wood for the wood burning stove and a bell hung from the top of the building and rang to announce the beginning of school, recess and the end of the school day. Most of the students walked to school but some came in horse and buggy.  Dr. Mike Langford had the only car in town and brought his children in the car on occassion. Mr. McLean also refers to the rostrum.  What is a rostrum?

To the Blythewood Bengals for their win over Richland 1!

Now you Know...The answer to last week's question:  The Langford-Wilson House at 110 McNulty Street was owned by Miss Frances A. Powell.  She was the first female Postmaster in Blythewood. After 1919 the building was occupied as  a grocery store and later as a post office in the early years of H.B. McLean's term as postmaster.  It was also a   branch of the Richland County Public Library in the early 1940s.  Bob M. was the first to write in the correct answer! Thanks for reading the newsletter!
Did you Know...In 1901 George Shealy Langford was born to Clark and Kizzie Langford ( Langford Road namesakes...also found out that Langford Road and Blythewood Roads were paved in 1939). George graduated from Blythewood School in 1917 and went to Clemson.  He later published over 100 scientific articles and finished his career as the Maryland State _________.  What was his job?
