May 24th-27th Weekend

    Happy Memorial Day
This Weekend in Blythewood
May 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th

Happy Memorial Day

Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans - the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) - established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War.    It is believed the date of May 30th was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country.  By the 20th  century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in military service.

As you enjoy your weekend, take some time to remember those who have died while fighting for the freedoms we so often take for granted.
